Years of Collecting Experience & Counting

Vintage Scuba gear is loosely defined as gear predating the common use of single hose regulators.  Many will have a date in mind, but someplace in the early 1970s was the watershed event where the beloved double hose regulator met its demise…….

With a few exceptions, as there are always exceptions, the last double hose was produced and sold in the USA in 1973.  There was one notable exception; that being the Nemrod Snark series regulators used by the military for rebreather training well into the 21st century.

I am by no means an expert or a qualified technician in regards to these old regs, but I do have a nice little collection of dive worthy regulators and other sundry equipment that I wish to share with the public on this site. There are many vintage equipment collectors and I applaud them for their efforts in conserving these items for posterity, however; unlike those collectors, I work to maintain my items in dive worthy condition, and dive them the way the Scuba God intended.

I am always looking for new items for the museum and my dive buddies.  If you have any items that you would like to trade or sell please let me know and check my wish list for ideas.

Scuba Shoppe of the year 2009 Amigos of Ft White, Florida

TheScubaMuseum.com from time to time takes note of Local Dive Shoppes (LDS) that provide exemplary service to not only divers, but vintage divers.  Many plaques and certificates have been awarded but www.TheScubaMuseum.com decided in 2009 that one dive shoppe had outdone all the others.  That shoppe was Amigos Dive Center in Ft White Florida.  The owner of Amigos, Wayne Kinard not only provides banked mixed gases, but he has a self serve 24 hour fill station and is a Dive Rite and Trident dealer.  Wayne has for years been very helpful and welcoming to vintage divers from all over the USA and other countries.  This could be in part to the fact that he dived many of the springs and caves in Northern Florida before the days of the SPG and single hose.  That is right Wayne is one of the original vintage double hose divers and can still be seen from time to time donning a twin hose with some of his NAVED buddies. To learn more about Wayne and Amigos please visit www.amigosdivecenter.com .

Scuba Shoppe of the year 2010 Portage Quarry Bowling Green, Ohio

Portage Quarry and Jeff Rice of Bowling Green, Ohio has hosted the world famous Legends of Diving event for now 5 years.  Jeff has worked tirelessly to support vintage divers by bringing in many early pioneers of the early days of SCUBA.  Every year the legends event grows and the guest speakers educate today’s divers with first hand experiences and stories of the early days of Aqua Lung, Sportsways, Dacor, Healthways, and more.  Divers and speakers from all over the world attend thanks to Portage Quarry, Jeff and his staff.  This Award was presented to Jeff at the 2010 Legends event.  Thank you Jeff Rice for the hard work.  Please visit the Portage Quarry website and dive there soon.  www.portagequarry.com
